Salary Gap
For 2006-07, salaries at the University averaged $84,382, across all professorial ranks, or 93.7 percent of the average salary, $90,072, at 57 other public very high research activity (RU/VA) universities (according to a survey conducted by Oklahoma State University). The total dollar gap for the 891 University faculty included in the survey is $5,395,506, calculated as (891 x (90,072-84,382)).
Compensation Gap
At an average salary of $84,382, University benefits in 2006-07 total $27,424, or 32.5 percent of salary, bringing average faculty compensation (salary plus benefits) to $111,806. Benefits at the comparison institutions averaged 27.5 percent of salary, bringing the average faculty compensation for the group to $114,842. The total compensation gap for University faculty included in the survey is $2,705,076.

For both the University and the comparison group, salary data are weighted by the number of faculty by discipline by rank for University faculty. The average salaries reflect all sources of support. To be included, faculty must be tenured or tenure eligible and be employed at least .75 FTE. Faculty in the School of Medicine are not included.
